BVLOS in Canada will require Detect and Avoid

As Canada moves forward with its revolutionary new regulatory framework allowing BVLOS for UAS/UAV/RPAS/drones (conditions apply, coming in Nov 2025), DAA is going be a big deal. DAA = Detect and Avoid. Two things:

1. “Detect” other airspace users such as GA planes/helicopters etc. and also something that is going to become more and more relevant will be detecting other RPAS – so an RTM/UTM will become more important (check out AIRmarket Inc. and the iART trials in Alberta)

2. “Avoid” – the capabilities to autonomously avoid coming too close to those other airspace users.

So here’s a thing that I’m working on with ArduPilot – what if the Object Avoidance capabilities already available in ArduCopter and ArduRover were functional on a Fixed Wing or VTOL vehicle?
